Vermont Winter Resorts

When one thinks of Vermont, the beautiful fall leaves, maple syrup and gorgeous winters are sure to come to mind. Vermont is the the place for a cozy, relaxing winter vacation that can feel like a journey back in time.

In Vermont there is plenty of time for the average winter sports like downhill skiing and snowboarding.  What is not average is the true Vermont experiences that can be found around every bend of any trip to this winter paradise. Vermont is a state rich in history, and for many people this means one thing: antique hunting.  This is the ideal trek for anyone looking to find a unique piece to bring home as a reminder of their time spent in Vermont.

Beyond the antiques, there are other remnants of the states past to be enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.  One such experience is enjoying one of the many things Vermont in known for, the collection and then use of maple for syrup.  Where else can one make a trek out into a snow covered forest to see the slow process of the sap running and then enjoy some fresh pancakes drenched in the natural syrup? While the taste is amazing, the smell out in the forest of the sap as it flows naturally is a unique treat.

While maple syrup is a big part of Vermont, it is not the only thing this state is famous for.  The state also famous for it's teddy bears, cheese, chocolate and of course ice cream like Ben and Jerry's.  Any trip to Vermont wouldn't be complete without a tour of a factory of one of the Vermont state treasures.  The Ben and Jerry's tour is sure to be a crowd pleaser and good for any age.

The factory tours are a bit of Vermont history that is fun to add to any winter trip.  Another fun adventure in the winter in Vermont is to try out some of the less known winter sports, like ice fishing or winter tracking.  While most people can say they have been fishing in the summer, ice fishing is a whole new adventure.  Winter tracking, where one either hikes or snow shoes into a wooded area to find treks or other marking of wildlife in hopes of getting a glimpse of a moose or the likes is yet another fun and unique part of a visit to the outdoors of Vermont. Any tour of Vermont should also include a visit to one or more of the scenic covered bridges the area is also famous for. All of these adventures make for some great photo opportunities to capture Vermont forever.

If one is in Vermont to enjoy a true local experience, it is also key to explore some of the best resorts they have to offer.  The skiing in Vermont is well known so many of the resorts focus on this winter sport. There are resorts like the Mountain Top Inn and Resort that focus on nordic skiing, with miles and miles of trails to be enjoyed by all skill levels.  On the other hand properties like Mount Snow Resort and Mad River Glen focus on alpine skiing.  If one is looking to experience both nordic and alpine skiing, properties like Jay Peak Resort, Burke Mountain Ski Area and Bolton Valley Resort offer a good mix of slopes and trails.

The Vermont winter resorts are a great place to enjoy a winter sport, but Vermont also has plenty of smaller Bed and Breakfast type lodging options as well.  Vermont is well known for it's cozy and welcoming spirit, which is very much a part of the local small town lodging or larger resort.

A trip to Vermont is best enjoyed when one takes the time to not only explore the wide range of winter sports but also takes some time to explore the many things that are unique to Vermont. Taking the time to see just how they make that amazing maple syrup or studying up on the newest flavors of Ben and Jerry's ice cream is sure to make a visit to Vermont all that more memorable.
