Pennsylvania Winter Resorts

People who live in Pittsburgh often enjoy frequent getaways to the Laurel Highlands area. This area of the state has major ski resorts for the winter months and plenty of fishing, hiking and biking opportunities for the summer. The Highlands also has some of the best whitewater rafting in the eastern portion of the country. Old Bedford Village is one of the best living history areas to visit int he region. Visitors will be consumed by costumed guides, authentic buildings, and craft demonstrations.

One of the most beautiful, unspoiled regions of the state lies within the Allegheny National Forest. This forest remained protected from settlers due to its rugged terrain and today, it is home to wild elk herds and many other animals. This portion of the state has more large animals that any other part of Pennsylvania combines. Those who enjoy winter sports can take snowmobiles on over 300 miles of trails. The Pennsylvania Grand Canyon is also a beautiful attraction featuring a deep gorge that can be seen on foot, by canoe, or even on horseback. After a day in the wilderness, visitors enjoy the picturesque Main Street of the nearby Wellsboro. This town has gas street lamps, fine country inns, and home cooked meals.

There are plenty of resorts and lovely places to stay sprinkled across the state as well. The Nemacolin Woodlands Resort is a great family destination within the Laurel Highlands area. This resort sits in the Southwestern portion of the state in the midst of a 2,000 acre wooded area. The luxurious resort is considered a boutique hotel with six different lodging options for guests to enjoy.

For those staying in the northeast portion of the state, the Woodloch Resort is a wonderful place to stay. This Pennsylvania winter resort has options for all-inclusive vacation packages that include fully furnished home rentals right next to the Pocono Mountains. The resort has been open since 1958, allowing visitors from all over the world to enjoy recreation and relaxation. Visitors can golf, enjoy spa treatments, have an outdoor adventure, watch birds, fish, or any number of other things.
